Managing Directors Speech – Albion Park Opening

Councilor David Hamilton, invited guests and Magnet Mart staff – welcome to Magnet Mart’s latest Home Improvement Warehouse store!

With the opening of this store today, the residents of Shellharbour and the surrounding region will have the most modern home improvement warehouse store at their disposal. We bring to Shellharbour over 40,000 products in a store that embodies our latest retail approach based on extensive research both within Australia and internationally.

Magnet Mart has been a successful home improvement retailer for over thirty years in total and we’ve seen many changes in our industry over that time. The beginning of warehouse retailing for us was in 1985 when we opened Australia’s first true warehouse hardware store with a drive-thru timber yard.

Since that time, we have followed international retailing trends closely and always looked for ways to improve on what we have seen. Our first modern warehouse store was opened in Gungahlin, in the ACT in 2002 to great acclaim throughout the industry.

Gungahlin is a little larger than this store, but we believe that Shellharbour will ‘punch above it’s weight’ and prove to be every bit as good.

The Gungahlin store provided us with a working model on which to further build our ideas to improve the way we operate and merchandise our range to our customers. In fact, customer feedback from all our stores is a key element in our development process – we listen to our customers and we act on their needs.

Shellharbour is now our ‘latest model’ store and will carry us forward as we continue to implement changes to our operations and improve our offering.

For a store to work and meet the needs of customers it requires more than some nice signs and good layout – it needs good staff.

At Magnet Mart, we believe that the people who work in our stores whether they are sales staff, Point of Sale Operators or forklift drivers all have an important role to play as members of our team.

All Magnet Mart staff participate in extensive product knowledge training to ensure that they are up to date with the latest products on offer. We employ people of all backgrounds and ages because we find that life experience matched to youthful enthusiasm is an unbeatable combination.

Older staff have lots of experience to share with customers and with younger staff members. Young people are the future of our company and we encourage and reward our staff to grow with us.

All Magnet Mart staff take pride in providing personalised service to all our customers.

Our motto on customer service is “Let’s Make it Easy for the Customer”.

We try to take that ideal through all our operations as we all know that the customer is the most important person in our business. We have a great team of people ready and eager to take up that challenge and I am sure they will do a very fine job.
